A wet, swampy weekend out at the Birdhouse. I was able to put down some Roundup in an area of the yard where the stiltgrass came up really badly. Also did some work in the beds and in the yard– spread some grass seed, pulled some rushes, planted the containers, and also some coreopsis to join the sole plant in the bed to the right of the front door, and some creeping jenny in the bog.
The cool thing this weekend was to see everything from last year and the year before taking hold and growing. The only thing I see no sign of is the pickerel rush, which was so cool last year. But the water mint has proliferated, and the seeds I planted seem to be coming up pretty well.
The coolest thing this weekend is to see the bluebirds nesting. I tried to catch them by their nest box, but wasn’t able to. Every so often you can see the little fledglings poking their heads out of the opening. They’ll probably have left the next by the time we come back next weekend!
