The Birdhouse: A West Virginia gardening journal

Fall bed prep

I cleared out big sections of the beds that had been taken over by rudbeckia, and planted bulbs– yellow and white daffodils of various sorts (Dutch Master, The Poet, Ice Follies), Siberian squill, and seeds (fuzzy-tongued penstemon, California poppy, Western yarrow). We will see what comes up next year!

No more rudbeckia. Lots of bulbs in this cleared patch. Will need to plant some shrubs by the house.

I also transplanted the lady ferns that were by the house– by the stump near the road. Hopefully it won’t be too wet there for them in the spring and fall.
